Every vegetable on this list can be grown in the state of Florida. However, this does not rule out the possibility of some veggies growing better than others. Nevertheless, as you read below and take note of the following plants’ relevance and varieties in Florida.
Beans
Beans are one of the simplest plants I’ve ever raised. They expand quickly and become large. As a gardener, this combination makes you proud. Beans might help you appear to be an expert gardener. For a little work, there’s a lot of results. You can plant a variety of beans, but the three most common are Pole beans, Bush beans, and Lima beans.
Beans that are good for Florida:
- Bush: Bush Blue Lake, Contender, Roma II, Provider, Cherokee Wax
- Pole: McCaskan, Kentucky Wonder, Blue Lake
- Lima: Fordhook 242, Henderson, Jackson Wonder, Dixie Butterpea, Early Thorogreen
Most people prefer Bush Blue Lake beans because their harvesting is simple and plentiful.
Beets
Beets are also fast-growing crops that can be harvested in about two months. Beets don’t take up a lot of space in the garden, so you may plant a lot of them. Cylindra, Tall Top, Detroit Dark Red, Early Wonder, Red Ace, Yellow Detroit are all Florida-friendly beet varieties. It’s ideal to harvest your broccoli heads before the blooms emerge.

Cabbage

Cabbage varieties that grow well in Florida include Copenhagen Market, Flat Dutch, Red Acre, Rio Verde, Round Dutch, Savoy, and Wakefield.
I’ve always cultivated the Red Acre type, but this is by no means an exhaustive list of cabbage varieties that may be grown in Florida. There are numerous variations; sometimes all you have to do is roll the dice and see what occurs.
Collards
One of the easiest veggies to cultivate on our list. Collards can be seen growing virtually all year in every section of the state. The only time collards will not grow in Florida is during the frigid winters in north Florida and the hottest months of the summer. Planting can be done at any time of the year.
Georgia Southern, Top Bunch, and Vates are some of the Florida-friendly collard varieties. In central Florida, Gardeners always had terrific success with the Georgia Southern variety.
Corn
This is a true American classic. Planting corn in bunches is required. Pollination of corn requires the presence of additional corn plants. You must stay on top of the water to have a successful corn crop.
Early Sunglow, Silver Queen, Sweet Ice, and Sweet Riser are all Florida-friendly corn varieties. Corn earworm is the most common bug you’ll have to deal with. They prefer to conceal themselves near the tassels and inside the husk.
Cucumber
Cucumbers come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Bushing and vining kinds are two different sorts of bushings. Cucumbers that are produced solely for pickling are also available.
