After planting the eggplant seeds in the soil, the next thing is to watch out for the plants as they begin to grow and produce leaves. Those small sprouts as you will begin to notice them sprouting up should be well cared for and nurtured in order to produce and grow well.

3) SEEDLINGS STAGE OF EGGPLANT

The next eggplant growing stage is for the seeds to start germinating into what is called seedlings. This stage is very important most especially if you choose to transplant your egg plant.

At this point the egg plant seedlings are still soft and tender. So you can watch them and ensure they have a healthy germination before transplanting them. The seedling takes like six to ten weeks to grow before they can now be transplanted.

4) ADULT PLANTS STAGE OF EGGPLANT

Eggplants have a long maturity period which takes like 70 to 140 days. This means that at this point the egg plants are getting to maturity. They grow to about two to four feet, although their height depends on the variety of egg plants you want to plant.

At this stage they are beginning to grow and sprout their leaves, they have a main stem with leathery leaves that are oval in shape with various stems branching out. Note also that some egg plants require staking for their support so that the weights of their fruits don’t pull them down.

So a stake can be introduced at this phase. At this point also, the plants needs adequate sunlight, water and care to make it healthy. You can also apply fertilizer and more care should be invested at this stage.

5) FLOWERS STAGE OF EGGPLANT

As the plants mature, the flowers begin to appear. This is like the show off period as the plants begin to blossom and bud. These flowers are self pollinating with both the male and female organs present in each flower. At this growing stage also, you need to watch out for pests and diseases that may want to start destroying the plants.

6) FRUIT STAGE OF EGGPLANT

At this stage, the fruits are produced which can be white, purple or stripped depending on the variety of the egg plant. You also need to watch out and safeguard the fruits from pests.

7) HARVEST STAGE OF EGGPLANT

As soon as the fruit begin to mature, you can begin to harvest them. This is the last phase of the egg plants growing stage. When you notice that the fruits have a shiny appearance and firm to the touch, it’s an indication that the plants are ready for harvest. During this period they should be picked while they are still young.

Conditions for favorable growth of egg plants

One thing to take note off is that irrespective of the various stages of growth of the egg plants, they always require a warm soil, full access to sunlight and a very fertile soil for their germination. Of course, you must not also forget that they need water to keep the soil moist and try to avoid the plants drying out.

Another point you can note is that, although egg plants have a long growing date from the seed to maturity, however, there are also other varieties of the egg plants that mature faster and produce fresh and ripe fruits on time.

Lastly, when planting the egg plants you can also consider the following:

  1. Choose your planting site carefully and clear the site of any debris.
  2. Check for soil fertility.
