Onions are known for their delicious taste and are also a vital part of our everyday meal. It can be classified as a vegetable plant that is popularly cultivated and harvested worldwide. Aside from their various health benefits, they are parts of the vegetables that are most commonly grown at home.
They are plants that are quite simple to grow and cultivate right in our garden. Your garden plant is not complete if the onion plant has not been added to your garden. HOW TO PLANT THE ONION
To plant the onions, there are different ways to go about it, however, we will consider the two most commonly used methods known, and you can consider each one and choose the one that suits you best and works well for you.
1) The first thing is to get another onion from your previous harvest or you can buy freshly bought onion from your store. Remember to use fresh onions only.
2) Cut off the base of the onion with your knife and peel off the outer skin or layer of the onion bulb while ensuring the roots are still intact.
3) After cutting the onion, the next thing is to place the bottom of the onions you already cut out on a dry surface while making sure that the place you cut is facing upwards. What you want to achieve is to let the bottom of the onion dry off for about a few hours to a couple of days by placing them in a well-ventilated area until it is callous and dry to touch.

4) Get a glass or a container of water and place the base of the onions over the glass or container of water such that the bottom only touches the top of the water.
5) You can leave it to grow for like 3 to 4 days. By then you will notice the roots have started growing out. At this point, your plant cutting is now ready for planting. Remember to place the onion in a sunny spot to make the plant root grow faster.
6) After this has been successfully done, the next thing is to transfer the plant cutting into your garden.
The second method is to get your leftover onions from your used onions. Normally, we discard this and treat it as waste without knowing its usefulness. Get the root part of the onion bulb after cutting away the top part that you need. This root part which normally would be discarded can be used as a starter plant to grow your new onions. All you need is to plant the starter plant with its roots still intact into the soil and you will be surprised to see it sprouting within a few days.
HOW TO GROW THE ONION
Here are a few tips on how to go about that:
Onion plants grow well in well-draining soil. Ensure that the soil is well-draining. Dig a hole about 1 to 2 inches deep and place the onion bulb with its roots into it and cover with moist soil. (The hole can be in the center of the soil, but be sure to allow the bottom of the onion root to come in contact with the soil before placing your onion plant root base in the soil, and then cover with the soil).
The next thing is to water the onion with enough water and avoid the soil being soaking wet. You can apply fertilizer especially those that contain nitrogen to it. You can also work in some manure and compost into the soil in order to boost the soil’s nutrients. They can be planted in soil that has a pH ranging from 6-7.5.

How to care for your onion plant
Sunlight: Plant them at a place where they can receive adequate sunlight
Harvesting: They are ready for harvest when the bulb grows big and reaches about 3 inches. At this point, you can then dig out your onions and they are ready to be used. Within the next 90 to 120 days, your onion plant should be ready for harvest.
