Radish is an annual vegetable which comes in different, shapes, sizes, and colours. Radish is a kind of vegetable which can be roasted, grilled, pickled, or toasted depending on your preference.

Radish, a cool-season crop contains essential nutrients such as potassium, magnesium, calcium, vitamin B6, vitamin K and a high amount of vitamin C. To grow radish from scraps, you can do so on a small scale level and to carry this out get the following: one radish, three toothpicks, a small glass/plastic cup, and some water.

Growing Radish from Scraps: Method 1

Get your radish and remove the stems and leaves. Afterwards, stick the three toothpicks into the radish and place on the rim of the glass.

Pour some water into the glass without filling it and leave the top part of the radish poking out of the water. Avoid covering the whole radish as doing so will make it drown.

Place the jar in a sunny window and leave it. If there is a need to add more water, do so. Within a week or thereabouts, some roots and leaves will be visible. This means growth has begun. You can wait for two weeks. After two weeks, you will notice that the radish has filled the entire glass with roots.

Once the radish has begun growing roots and leaves, transfer it to a flower pot. At this stage, the radish plant needs the nutrients that are present in the soil. Ensure to keep the radish plant in a warm and sunny window and water as required.

The above is a simple way of growing radishes from scraps. However, it is not the only way as there are other ways of growing radishes from scraps, one of which is explained below:

Growing Radish from Scraps: Method 2

Radish is a plant which can be planted from its roots. The root should be at least one inch and can be obtained from a radish plant using a kitchen knife. The root can be planted in a raised bed or in-ground bed.

Obtain your radish root. Get a germination gel and cover the whole cut surface of the radish root using your fingers while spreading the gel over the surface evenly.

Get a sunny spot. Afterwards, dig two inches hole in the soil and place the root end into the hole. Once that is done, cover the hole with the soil.

Dig a row of radish and keep two inches distance between holes in which you are going to plant radish. If you would be digging another row, take proper care and ensure to space at least 10 inches between the rows.

Your radish should mature within a month and can then be harvested. However, if the temperature is less than 50°F, then it might take up to 50 days to mature. Once your radishes are mature, harvest them. You can also store them for future use.
